Dear Denise,
You will find yourself between a rock and a hard place. I never thought that saying would apply anywhere in my life but it did. You will have to decide whether it is worth it to move to a different town to get the education you require for the career you desire. The first thought will be that the university is in the middle of nowhere but I would just want you to be grateful that you were accepted for a course you wanted because not many have the same chance. Of course, it will not be the same environment you're used to, there will be new people and the dynamics of how things work will be different. I just want you to embrace the change, get ready for the new adventure and independence. Don’t feel like you have to conform to the environment; just be you - if you want to wear red lipstick, go ahead! People talk but in the end, if it’s what will make you feel good about yourself do it.

You will meet new people some who will become lifelong friends who will be on the same journey as you. Not all the friendships will last but that is ok; the friends you really need will stick around. Don’t feel like because someone talked to you first or approached you that you have to be friends, take your time to meet people and connect the friendship will come on its own.

All the stories you will hear about the roommate drama and relationships will remain stories. You will be very lucky; you'll get a roommate who will be like the big sister you never had, who will protect you and help you adjust she will be a blessing and keep you out of trouble.

The only advice I can give you is to be yourself, don’t change for anyone or feel you have to do things differently because of various reasons. Enjoy the journey. You will learn to pay bills, live alone and manage your very own household, do your own hair (hard to believe) and even have a fitness routine (haha). You will grow to be a woman you never thought you could be so embrace the change.

Future Denise.
