DEAR TURI

Dear Turi,

I see you in Chemistry Class, 17 years old and day dreaming about your marriage.

How boy crazy were you??

Anyway, you have THE LIST! Who doesn’t? He must be a mix of Alejandro from the soap Cuando Seas Mia.. and a bit of Justin Timberlake. Who does not want half caste children with beautiful hair?

Fast forward to 2017 and you are married, very happily married to a very cute looking, charming, GOD fearing, sensitive, understanding man who simply adores you! He tells you he loves you every day and he buys you gifts - gorgeous dresses, takes you on date nights, spoils you rotten and the best of all covers you in prayer every day! He loves to hear your dreams and he pushes you to your dreams and challenges your limits! He is NOT white ! Lol - he is so African it hurts but he is definitely white on the inside ? Guess what else God threw in the bargain- he speaks French AND Spanish FLUENTLY!! He loves your cooking and is your best friend… seems like a dream right? No, God is faithful!

When God says he has good plans for you according to Jer 29:11, He meant it! Trust Him. He has better plans than you could ever imagine. Oh I did not mention that you have a gorgeous 16 month old daughter called Thandiwe (your dream man chose the name too- told you you landed on a keeper!) She has the most beautiful big black eyes, almond skin and soft hair. She is assertive, strong, super intelligent, a worshiper, obedient (most times) and very social! She came after 4 years of marriage - a story for another day.

So my advice for you…

Don’t panic that you will not marry a good man - focus rather on God’s standards of a godly man. Grow yourself, find your identity in Christ because we attract who we are.

Don’t bother looking for affirmation in all the boys who have crushes on you. If they don’t love God, they don’t even know what love is and how to treat you right. Jesus died for you, those boys cannot even faint for you.

Focus and study hard…it will pay off! You will learn the gift of hard earned money when you begin to pay 30% tax.. again a story for another day.

Pray and ask God for real, genuine and godly friends who are GIRLS! I know you say girls are too emotional but emotions are good. You will learn in campus that once you know how you feel is when you can control your emotions and realise their impact on others. Good friends influence a lot of the decisions you make and the values you hold.

Please stop watching the soaps and living in a fantasy! That stuff is all meant to arouse the wrong feelings at the wrong time. It is based on jealousy, hatred, revenge and all that is not God. Read 1 Corinthians 13 - that is love. You will need to throw a lot of DVDs and chick flicks as well - they are toxic to your soul.  Take a bible, spend time with Jesus and be loved and love.

Finally, forgive. Forgive yourself. Forgive those who have wronged you. Forgiveness will free you and help you receive and offer grace from God.

Love,

Waturi Wamboye( Yes that’s your new name now ?)
